Where choices are not valued and understood,

Where genocides are carried in the name of brotherhood,

Where answer to conversion is therapy for you,

Where hearts that beat are left a few!

This is the story of our great-free-secular country of which I’m a very proud citizen. So Jai Hind, Vande Mataram and whatever else I’m required to say before proceeding further.

Cow is our mother, Gau Mutra is the best. Bharat Mata is everybody’s mother. This land is our motherland. Since we are so obsessed with the woman-mother figure, I want to talk about few instances where women and their choices were loved, respected and highly appreciated. This is my story, your story and the story of every woman who has tried to live, laugh and love here but in exchange we got some important lessons to learn. Sigh!

Instance 1: I am that woman who was not allowed to read a book which states the goodness of a faith. It was snatched and thrown by my Uncle and I could see the fear, threat, anger and resentment in his eyes. I was even scolded to dare to bring it inside the house.

Instance 2: I am that woman who lives every day in the fear of my truth coming out. The truth of the religion I follow, the faith I believe in and the god I worship. I’m afraid about the repercussions of my choices, I’m afraid if I’ll even be allowed to live another day.

Instance 3: I am that woman who’s afraid to fall in love with the man of my choice because I know I’ll not be allowed to substantiate my love for him and my relationship with him. And I’m not alone in this.

Reasons for all this is one and it’s plain clear. We are women and we are not deemed fit to make our choices. So much for the love and respect for us in our beloved motherland. Hail for the country! Bharat Mata Ki Jai!

And brace yourself for the other reason. These men are Muslims and their faith is Islam. And these are the real stories of real women around you and if you have started losing interest or sympathy for our story, congratulations you are the ones I’m writing this for. Also Sir/Mam the mental sickness you have is called Islamophobia and you can either 1go back to your normal lives, live in denial or choose to work on yourself and be a better human being.

Ending on the note,

They aren’t illiterate but the most-learned.

They aren’t uncivilized but the most-behaved.

They aren’t orthodox but the most liberal.

They aren’t merciless but the kindest of all.

You burnt their houses and raped their women,

You broke their bones and trampled their souls.

Clearly, you’re the haters, they’re the lovers.

You’re the destroyers; they’re the believers, the peace-believers!

Wishing on this country and its citizens speedy recovery from the ongoing pandemic and their mental sickness!
